| Cheers Keith for organising a bonus day out.
It was great to get out and at one point it looked like the sun was out to stay be it only lasted about an hour and then the fog decended again. I had a terrible day as far as the fishing went, alll the fish were on Tim's side of the boat!
We moved towards the oglet and passed a charter boat (Discovery) which was on our starboard side as we headed up river but the fog became so thick we dropped anchor in 40 ft of water were we could just make out the dock wall. We could hear the engines and fog horn of the ship getting closer and closer and although we were in shallow water and were pretty sure the charter boat was somewhere close by, and should show on the ships radar, it was still rather disquieting not being able to see what must have been a substantial vessel passing by - even though it was probably 1/4 mile away. Anyway when the fog cleared we were about 200 ft away from the charter boat and as the tide began to flood they let out more rope and ended up about 100 ft on our port side. They then proceeded to embarrass us by pulling in quite few codling while we sat there like a pair of eejits forlornly looking at our rod tips and feeding the crabs - couldn't catch a cold!
Anyway it was great to get out and fog aside I don't think anyone had any issues with the tide. Looking forward to the next outing now and hopefully having a bit more success.

| hi steve,, discovery was further out than us,, we were in shallow water as the fog was bad,, presume they have AIS which means other ships can see them on radar,, we dont so had to stay close to the wall.. glad your mate had a good day,,,,, keith

| Yes , it was a pea souper alright and I should imagine a charter has all the radar stuff. Saw lots of charters in the shipping lane, they will get banned if they carry on
