Went to Caernarfon on Monday for a couple of days fishing but it fell through due to non-starting motor on the straits. [ After being tested in the tub 2 days before setting off !!!]
We spent ages trying everything to get motor started, went to local engineer who after tests said that the stator has gone. Anyone got a stator for a 75hp Mariner??
Returned to Liverpool late Monday night and arranged to go out on Garys boat on Tuesday from New Brighton. Forecast had been 2-3mph, sunny etc. However, it turned out quite lumpy and breezy. Tried the wall on the Q buoys had a few bites and couple of smoothies, small 2/3lb Bass and a couple of small codling 2lb ish.
Still quite lumpy but we moved onto the Banks in the Rock Channel. Well -- what a turnround in the fishing. Some stonking bites so good was the fishing we stayed out until after 6pm. Although we didnt keep exact count we had small thornback rays, dabs, about 12 to 15 smoothhounds up to 10lbs approx. And .....
about a dozen Bass- 9 in the region of 2 to 3 lbs but 3 stonkers, really good hard fighting fish. Two about 7 to 8 lbs and one 5 to 6lbs. What a day- best Bass and smoothie fishing for years.
