| Mark ,Dad and myself fished the pm's match at greenfields last night. It was tough going! The usual hot period at the beginning of the match only produced a few plaice flounders and the odd eel then it went very quiet.Dad had one eel about half way through the match and Mark got a whiting. I was still waiting for a bite With half an hour to go i cast a bit further out which produced a bite. I sat on my hands for 5 mins and then reeled in a small plaice . The last 2 casts produced 2 eels for me which had me smiling Mark lost one when it fell off and fell between the rocks The winner was local legend John Waugh with 7 fish taken on crab lug and squid. Eels; flounder; paice; whiting; bass; and weevers were taken. We have nothing formal on now till pefelli so might try and get some smoothies in | |

| did you expect anything else Steve, we dont get replies unless we have a pop at the members If anyone has any ideas to push the club forward and get more members fishing some club outings then they should be discussed, the members need to let the club know what they want from Sefton sea anglers as a club, I personally think the club is winding down where the fishing is concerned which will be disasterous for the club so we need to find a new path as well as some younger members to bred life back into the old dog. | |

| I'll reply,Steve well done mate Went out with John Doyle last night to have a go fishing Mariners, first time in weeks Johns been fit enough to get out fishing. We intended to fish two rods each, one set up for the rays, and the other set up for the soles. Arrived early to fish our normal spot, only to find there were five lads already fishing there(hardly any water there at the time ) So we had to move further down the front Looked over the railings to see loads of bladder wrack in the water, absolutely chocker with it,never seen weed in the river this bad in all the years I have fished it. Anyway,we set up and cast out,no sooner had the lead gripped, then it was pulled out by tons of weed wrapped around the mainline. Thought it would disappear after a while,no chance ,just continuous all thru the tide. Decided to just fish one rod, then gave up for a while. Fishable only at high water. Once the tide turned, all that went up came back down.We gave up and came home. Those that were fishing in our normal spot, managed to catch one eel a small flounder and one small Sole. | |

| nice report steve, and well said mark,i agree with you to a point, we do need younger sea anglers bringing into the club, but you have to remember and respect the elder members of the club because with out them the club would not exsit they started it ,all them years ago.i have been a sea angler nearly 40yrs and without the likes of les, charles, ronnie and ol frank crabb,<der d owl arses older dan me >steve and yourself <your younger dan me>id still be fishing with french booms only and not a expert at makeing my own rigs<i think>so im glad i joined sefton sea anglers 6yrs ago.les, steve, phil and yourself fishing the p.m matches is also a good promotion for the club and might get younger anglers to join<if you stop losing fish afew yds out> p.s. steve, smoothies, day and time? | |

| Thanks for the replies lads. This is what the forum and the club should be like. Any report ,even if its a blank gives the members something to read and info on whats happening. To be honest Keith Greenfeilds is a bit up and down . You could launch there if you had a 4x4 and there are some big plaice in the Dee. Gordon Thornes fish it for them Mark is right about younger members coming into the club, but cant see it happening any time soon. I'm trying to do as much fishing as i can at the mo, club ,pms, NWASAC, and the odd open but come november (baby time) i'll have to cut right back. Might even take a compleat break for 6 months and learn how to pendulum properly Looking forward to pithtweelly, hope to catch some bream and garfish. | |

| I agree with you willow, I have huge respect for our mature members and they have supported the club and helped it grow into what it is today. The problem lies not with us as a club but with the sport as a hole, the p.m.s, north west and i'm sure all clubs nationwide are all struggling with the lack of young blood, There seems to be little interest from younger people for the sport. There is no easy fix for this and with the current situation off child protection and crb checks parents are unwilling to give their children to anybody unless they have police escort I know both Steve's son and my daughter want to fish so they may join at some time. | |

| Just reading Marks comments regarding youngsters not being interested in Sea fishing, reminded me of my own introduction to the sport,I had dabbled with it in my early teens, only because some of my mates were into it big time, back then. Never really understood what they saw in it,standing for hours in the freezing depths of winter( boy were winters cold in those days ) and your cold weather gear was an overcoat and a wooly hat(if you had one).and a pair of ordinary shoes.no thermal gear back then. It wasn't until I was into my early thirties, that I really got the bug and that was down to our John, who dragged me to the local second hand shop,( and its still going to this day)and made me buy a second hand Abu 174c beachcaster.(think I got stung on that one ). The next thing was to get a reel, again, I was given the advice to go for an Abu 7000.Got one out of a littlewoods catalogue, still remember the price £74.50 circa 1978.About 4 times what I was earning at the time.Took me 12 months to pay it off. Problem these days with the younger generation is they have lots of other things to occupy their time, computers etc. And if they do try sea fishing, they are probably put off by the lack of fish around these days. | |

| I started at ten and had the best teachers around, my dad and Allan Sharpe. I was put on the right path from the start and enjoyed success from an early age. Didnt mind the cold at that age( it affects me more now) We had a good dozen or so juniors in the club back then. We only have 2 now. Lets hope that they stay and enjoy being in the club. Jon and Alex are the future of our club and we should all take time out to help them enjoy their fishing. If they fish pifflewwelli i'll make some rigs up for them and show them how to use them | |
