Date: 20th july

Meet 18 .45 at Perch Rock Car Park

Fishing Times 19 .30-- 22 .30

We will decide nearer the time if we fish perch rock or go left and fish the rock channel. I will keep an ear to the ground for up to date catch reports. Better chance of a ray at perch but more bass plaice and flounder at the rock channel. I know some people must be sick of hearing it but crab is essential. I know its not cheap but 6 crab will catch you more fish than 100 black at this time of year. If you normally get 2 pack of black and a box of squid to fish spend that money on crab and and try and make it last. I guarantee you will catch more fish with it. Im using quarter of a crab on a small hook and the legs can be peeled to form a bait on there own. All are welcome to attend and you can take it serious or not , just come along and have a fish. Tight lines . Steve.

if it has to be mid week what is wrong with a Friday to enable everyone to fish?

When a few of us fished the alex for Rays Mark wanted to make the vale park match a clubmans but it was said by Les that it wasnt fair because not everyone could make it due to PM matches etc... so it wasnt a clubmans match - doesnt the same apply here for us? scratch scratch

Fair comment guys. I am governed by tides and also by other factors such as all the other anglers commitments through the week. I struggle on tuesdays and thursdays due to my wifes work and uni commitments. Mondays is usually club nights, Friday, a lot of people are out socialising. Last year Mal asked the clubmans be kept separate from the league matches and as it was we struggled to get matches in. The mid week times are always going to be around 7-7.30 as this is probably the earliest time that people can get to the venues after work etc. To be honest its hard work getting this league organised to suit everyone as anyone who has organised leagues will testify. I need a minimum of 10 anglers at each match to qualify for the clubmans points so thats another thing to take into account. The coment by Les about the vale park match clashing with the pms and so not being a clubmans match is also fair comment, why clash them if we dont have to? As the organiser of the league i'd like to think i try and please everyone but its impossible to do so all of the time. You dont have to hang around at the end of the matches , you can shoot off as soon as the fishing is over. Any winnings or scores can be sorted next time i see you. I'm running the league for the anglers who want to fish it and will listen to everyones thoughts and will try to act on it. Please try and fish them lads as the more the better. On the subject of matches clashing, its happened since i started fishing 30 years ago. There are not enough suitable tides/ times in the year. Thats why i havent done the league matches this year, as i knew they would clash with the Nwasac pms and league, its inevitable. I personally would rather fish the pms.

On another note i will not be running the league next year as im getting earache about the amount of time im spending on angling and not putting an extension on the house. As such i probably wont be doing any committee jobs, club leagues or clubmans leagues. just going to do one open a month, probably Richie Burrows PMS matchs.

Ste, we are not having a go at you, just gutted that we will not be able to fish this match, but yes we do think it is unfair, will have a chat with you at otterspool.

Just that in are team there is only 3 that turn up and out of them 3 maybe only the 1person will be there, thats if he can make it. So if you think about it, if the vale park match was made a clubmans there would still have been 3out of the 5 of your team fishing it but Les (which was fine with me) wasnt happy about it so it didnt happen.

Ben , i know youre not having a go . The thing is its impossible for me to organise every match to suit everyone. It is hard work organising any match if its going to be successful. The penn clubman rule state that most of the matchs should be midweek so thats what im trying to do. I never mentioned that the match at vale park was going to be a clubmans, but Mark did. Well with all respct to Mark he shouldnt have said any thing until he ran it past me. I didnt know how many people were fishing either match. As far as i knew most of us would have been fishing the north west match . So as you can see im stuck betyween a rock and a hard place. As you have said only 3 of your team turn up but when we put the team together i mentioned to your dad that might be the case and he said go ahead anyway. The spring chickens are the same and later on in the year my team will be the same as Martin gets busy in work and i do. I will try and pick matches on a friday but if the numbers are low i will go back to monday to thursdays As with all fishing its working with the available tides On a last note, being the organiser id like to be at the matches to organise and fish them, i reckon thats fair for the work i put into them. as a result im not going to clash them with other matches that i am fishing. An organiser perogative if you like

fair comment ste, was speakin to mark and i said the same thing to him, that you are the one running them so everyone expects you to pick a date that you willl be able to get there and fish it. like anyone would do if they were putting there time into it.

The last two years ive had to pick matches that i couldnt fish just to try and get them in. I know the times a pain for you with having to get back to Wigan but ,realistically , they have to start around 7- 7.30 and if the matches were less than 3 hours long would they be worth fishing? I reckon most people finish work around 5 so if the matches start earlier than 7, it doesnt give them much time to get home, load van with gear ,get to venue, book in bait up and start fishing. I do understand where your coming from Ben but have a look at the tides through the week right through the year and you will see that choice is limited. We dont have loads of venues on this side of the river that fish good over low. otterspool can but the tides need to be small,; the alex can but its fishing carp; the sandon can but ditto the alex, ; Hall road can but needs to be a big tide and half our members wouldnt like the walk Evil or Very Mad You can see what im up against! I know this next one will be hard for you and your dad( and dids) to get too , but i promise you i'll do my best to keep the late/far venues to a minumum if i can. See you at the weekend.
